Welcome to Wisdom Journey, a course of spiritual growth through wisdom teachings, contemplative practices, storytelling and movies, for wisdom-seeking adults of all ages

THE  WISDOM  JOURNEY  SERIES

1 - Wisdom Journey Into Relationship

The first course in the Wisdom Journey series is Wisdom Journey Into Relationship.  This course, grounded in applied mindfulness practices, the Jewish wisdom tradition and the storytelling power of movies, is intended to help us work towards inner transformation, a greater level of self-awareness, and an enhanced capacity for relationship. Wisdom Journey Into Relationship focuses on relationship as the very core and essence of holiness. We use stories, movies, prayers, wisdom texts, journaling, meditation, art, ritual and Tikkun Middot (cultivating spiritual qualities) to help us step outside of our comfort zones and access our more authentic, inner truths. The goal of this work is to free ourselves to move beyond our egos and into a journey towards deeper relationship with our own souls and with each other, our communities, our planet, and God (however we understand God).

2 - Wisdom Journey Into The Inmost Cave

The second course in the Wisdom Journey series is Wisdom Journey Into The Inmost Cave.  This course, grounded in applied mindfulness practices, the Jewish wisdom tradition and the storytelling power of movies, is an exploration of the isolation, struggle and renewal that is found at the heart of the Hero’s journey. Wisdom Journey Into The Inmost Cave focuses on the role that isolation, struggle and renewal play on the path to Shalom, peace and wholeness. We use stories, movies, prayers, wisdom texts, meditation, journaling, art, ritual and Tikkun Middot (cultivating spiritual qualities) to help us step outside of our comfort zones and access our more authentic, inner truths. The goal of this work is to free us to move beyond our ego consciousness and into connection with our soul’s intimate journey towards deeper relationship with each other, our communities, our planet, and God (however we understand God).

3 - Wisdom Journey Into Holy Foolishness

The third course in the Wisdom Journey series is Wisdom Journey Into Holy Foolishness. This course, grounded in applied mindfulness practices, the Jewish wisdom tradition and the storytelling power of movies, explores suffering, surrender, patience, playfulness and hope as embodied by the archetype of the Holy Fool. Wisdom Journey Into Holy Foolishness views suffering, surrender, patience, playfulness and hope as vital components of life’s spiritual curriculum, through which our soul is emptied to make room for love and the presence of God.

ABOUT  WISDOM  JOURNEY

The Wisdom Journey Framework

Grounded in applied mindfulness practices, the perennial wisdom tradition and the storytelling power of movies, Wisdom Journey courses are intended to help us work towards inner transformation, a greater level of self-awareness, and an enhanced capacity for relationship.  In these courses we use stories, movies, prayers, wisdom texts, journaling, meditation, art, ritual and Tikkun Middot (cultivating spiritual qualities) to help us step outside of our comfort zones and access our more authentic, inner truths. The goal of this work is to free ourselves to move beyond our egos and into a journey towards deeper relationship with our own souls and with each other, our communities, our planet, and the Divine (however we understand the Divine). During each class, homework is assigned that may include texts to study, movies to watch and exercises to practice. Course participants are expected to watch the films on their own and to complete any assigned readings in time for the next class. We use those films and readings as the basis for our discussions and contemplative practices. Contact me to learn more.

Spiritual Growth

Spiritual growth requires a process of change and a shift in perspective that entails letting go of our egos and allowing our spirit-centered selves to emerge. In these courses we focus on relationship as the very core and essence of holiness. We use stories, movies, prayers, wisdom texts, meditation, journaling, art, ritual and Tikkun Middot (cultivating spiritual qualities) to help us step outside of our comfort zones and access our more authentic, inner truths. The goal of this work is to free us to move beyond our ego consciousness and into connection with our soul’s intimate journey towards deeper relationship with each other, our communities, our planet, and the Divine (however we understand the Divine).

The Wisdom Tradition

While these courses are conducted from within a Jewish frame of reference, the materials that we study are drawn from the entire spectrum of the Wisdom Tradition. Sometimes known as The Perennial Philosophy or Sophia Perennis, the Wisdom Tradition is a philosophy that has been taught throughout all ages and all cultures and is at the headwaters of all of the world’s great religious traditions. Consequently, the materials used in these courses may draw from a broad array of sources, including Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Shintoism, Sikhism, the spiritual practices of Indigenous peoples, folk tales, mythology, mysticism, literature, music and art. At the foundation of the Wisdom Tradition is the concern for the transformation of the whole human being from egocentricity into love and compassion, from a judgmental and dualistic worldview into one of nondual acceptance, and from a false perception of separateness into the realization of one’s inner divine spark, or True Self (know as Atman in Indian mysticism), which leads to the understanding that the divinity within ourselves is one and the same in all people, all creatures, and all life.
